1) In BC, and I suspect in the rest of Canada, Telus is forcing people to lose their copper-based landlines. Over the last couple of years I’ve shared the many concerns associated with this and the fact that CRTC refuses to hear our appeal. I’ve heard from people in BC who have been threatened by Telus with loss of service if they refuse to accept the VoIP “Voice over Internet Protocol” phone. It may be too late but we need to voice our concerns loudly — where is the media coverage of this??

PRESS RELEASE: AT&T LANDLINES UNDER IMMEDIATE THREAT IN CALIFORNIA; RESIDENTS POINT TO RELIABLE COPPER NETWORK’S ESSENTIAL ROLE EVERY DAY AND ESPECIALLY DURING EMERGENCIES
“Many seniors especially are disinclined or unable to use smartphones. The quality of landline audio is far superior to the alternatives. VoIP or Voice Over Internet Protocol has problems such as unreliable connectivity, calls dropping out, and likelihood of failure in an emergency or power outage.
Nevertheless, telecom companies have been pushing lower quality and less reliable wireless and VoIP services because they are cheaper and more profitable….
Landline advocates point out that many services identified by AT&T as alternatives to landline service are simply not accessible to those with medical sensitivities to wireless radiation.”
2) The island of Samos is fairly isolated — no major polluting industry, no pesticides, yet much of the flora and fauna are either deformed or are disappearing. What is thought to be a major contributor? All the cell towers that are needed to serve the many tourists. This is 18 pages long, many photos, and easy but disturbing read.
DNA and Developmental Damage from Cell Towers on the Greek Island of Samos: Effects on Insects, Flowers and Vegetables
by Diana Kordas
“A recent paper, ‘Human-made electromagnetic fields: Ion forced-oscillation and voltage-gated ion channel dysfunction, oxidative stress and DNA damage (Review) published in the International Journal of Oncology by biophysicist Dimitris J. Panagopoulos et. al. states unequivocally that electromagnetic radiation from wireless technology damages DNA. This leads to infertility, sterility, mutations and extinctions, and it explains the loss of biodiversity that we are currently experiencing on this planet….
DNA damage from wireless radiation is not a new discovery. It has been confirmed over and over by numerous scientists using a variety of experimental subjects and frequencies. But do observations in the laboratory translate into the same effects in the real world? If these scientists are correct, they must do. In the real world things might be a lot worse, because in the real world we are not exposed to a single frequency or bandwidth but to a whole soup of them, from multiple sources. In the real world, exposure time is not limited to a few minutes or hours per day or week; the cell towers are on day and night. DNA damage from wireless radiation is not a laboratory phenomenon; it is real. We are losing the insects—among them, the pollinators. We are losing the birds. Animals are dying out. We are wiping ourselves out.”
3) From a member, a warning about agreeing to allow a utility company to have remote control of appliances. The result could be controlled AC in the summer or furnace in the winter. I did read an article a couple of years ago about someone in the US who had new “smart” washing machine and dryer, and had signed an agreement for a rebate or reduced electricity rates if she agreed to allow them to be disabled during periods of high electricity demand. In the middle of doing a wash the machines were shut off and she was unable to get accesss to a piece of clothing her child needed. Not deadly but very inconvenient.
“Here is another thing to be aware of. Home appliances can now be turned off by a third party, remotely.
Someone just told me, in Australia, when you buy an appliance, such as an air conditioner, you are offered a big rebate, like $400. All you have to do is fill out the rebate form, include a copy of your receipt, mail it in, they send you a check. Typical quick and easy rebate stuff, right? Well someone actually looked at the rebate and went to the website to read the fine print. When you sign your name on that little form and mail that rebate in, you have entered into a contract; YOU ARE AGREEING TO LET THE ELECTRIC COMPANY REMOTELY DEACTIVATE YOUR APPLIANCE TO “CONSERVE ELECTRICITY”. Folks, if it’s happening in AU, it’s happening in the UK and Canada and probably here in the USA too. I would suggest being highly skeptical of Rebates on anything, let alone Electric stuff.”
Some utility companies say that being able to remotely control appliances is one “advantage” of the utility’s “smeter” program. There are many reports of this “remote control for rebate” being implemented, sometimes without advising the customer.
