1) If this bill passes in the US, it could mean no power at the local level over the siting of cell towers or placement of microcells. It is virtually inevitable that if this is allowed to happen in the USA, it will happen here.
Stop Big Government Takeover of Local Control
“HR 3557 SUMMARY
This bill represents an unprecedented and dangerous infringement of local governments’ authority to manage public rights-of-way and land use; it strips local governments of property rights and monetary compensation in favor of cable, wireless and telecommunications providers. The bill also waives historic preservation (NHPA) and environmental (NEPA) rules. Yet in return for these gifts, the bill imposes no obligations on these companies to provide broadband to “unserved” and “underserved” Americans.”

2) I hope that many of you will be able to attend this free meeting which includes Gary Bolton of Fiber Broadband Association. We need to begin to present this vital information to our city Councils and businesses because even the telecoms acknowledge that fibre is the future. Perhaps we need a sub-group working on this, preparing slides and documents that can be shared. Of special significance right now is the need to preserve energy and wireless has a massive appetite. Registration is available in the article linked below. Assuming the meeting will be recorded, I will share the video as soon as I get it.

First comes love, then come unintended consequences
“First comes love, then come unintended consequences that a positive attitude does not erase.
Daily, I learn about unintended consequences of projects that corporate self-regulation and government agencies (like the Environmental Protection Agency, increasingly rendered powerless by Congress and the Supreme Court) fail to protect:…”
