2023-06-27 A digital detox tourist island

1) My power line adapter malfunctioned (it was 10 years old) last night so I was unable to send out an update. Unfortunately you missed getting the announcement about C4ST’s general meeting that took place today. The newsletter with the announcement has a lot of other good information including a link to the last meeting that included an interview with Victor Leach of ORSSA. I will let you know when the link to today’s meeting is available.

In case you’re wondering what a “powerline adapter” is, it allows me to have wired internet connections anywhere in my home. It does increase the DE on the home wiring, but it can be turned off when not in use and staying away from the outlet/wall reduces exposure as do filters.

2) This island is offering a place to escape EMF and detox, away from the normal toxic environment. And also to see people talking and looking at the scenery instead of having their heads buried in their cell phones.

Phone-free zone: Finland introduces world’s first digital detox tourist island

“This European island is asking tourists to switch off their phones this summer.

Itching for a digital detox? An island in Finland wants to become the world’s first phone-free tourist zone….

Located in the Eastern Gulf of Finland, the tiny island has declared itself a “phone-free” zone.

“The island of Ulko-Tammio, which is located off the coast of Hamina, will be a phone-free area this summer,” says Mats Selin, from Visit Kotka-Hamina tourism board.

“We want to urge holidaymakers to switch off their smart devices and to stop and genuinely enjoy the islands.””

3) For anyone interested in learning more about fibre optic networks, I would suggest signing on to the Fiber Broadband Association’s newsletter. It is free and provides access to prior webinars and “breakfast meetings”. Some topics are important such as the recent breakfast meeting comparing rural networks.

FBA Presents – Fiber and Wireless Broadband Technology Comparison for Rural Networks

“The Fiber Broadband Association and Vantage Point Solutions recently released a white paper that answers the question, “Can Unlicensed Wireless Solve the Rural Digital Divide?” The research reveals that the limitations of unlicensed wireless and wireless in general are too great to be worthy of investment from public funds, such as the NTIA’s Broadband Equity, Access, and Deployment (BEAD) program, and therefore cannot effectively close the digital equity gap. The paper concludes that fiber remains the most future-proof of all broadband technologies.”

4) An excellent idea from EMR Australia who wants to educate people who build and design homes how they can help reduce exposure.

Calling all builders, developers, architects, planners and electricians!

“Are you in the building industry or are you having a new home built or wired?

Let me tell you how we can help.

EMR Australia has just launched two EMF Awareness Training packages aimed at helping people in the building industry understand and factor in electromagnetic fields when designing, constructing and wiring a building.”
