2021-01-30 Another EHS refuge endangered

1) Greenbank Observatory in West Virginia, USA has long been a refuge for EHS victims because no wireless devices/towers, etc. were allowed within a prescribed area to prevent interference. But now, many fear the new high-powered transmitter will increase the EMF level to the point where even this area is heavily polluted and another refuge may be lost.

Successful Test Paves Way for New Planetary Radar

“GBO’s Green Bank Telescope (GBT) — the world’s largest fully steerable radio telescope — was outfitted with a new transmitter developed by Raytheon Intelligence & Space, allowing it to transmit a radar signal into space. The NRAO’s continent-wide Very Long Baseline Array (VLBA) received the reflected signal and produced images of the Apollo 15 moon landing site….

The proof-of-concept test, culminating a two-year effort, paves the way for designing a more powerful transmitter for the telescope. More power will allow enhanced detection and imaging of small objects passing by the Earth, moons orbiting around other planets and other debris in the Solar System….

Using the information collected with this latest test, the participants will finalize a plan to develop a 500-kilowatt, high-power radar system that can image objects in the Solar System with unprecedented detail and sensitivity.”

Is the pandemic fuelling cyber-addiction in young people?

“The COVID-19 pandemic has caused problems to all walks of life across every continent. Financial difficulties, high unemployment, pressure on health systems and isolation are just a few of the hardships facing society right now. But one of the less mentioned issues caused by the pandemic is the effect of prolonged and repeated lockdowns on young people and how they are becoming increasingly hooked on the dopamine hit they get from screen time. More and more parents are worried about this. They fear that their children spending hours on computers and phones, gaming and studying, might turn into an addiction.”

Dr. Nicholas Kardaras was one of the presenters at today’s session at EMF Conference and spoke on the topic of digital addiction (https://emfconference2021.com/speaker/nicholas-kardaras-phd-lcsw/). Studies show that dopamine and adrenaline levels increase while playing games, giving a “high”, resulting in a true addiction. This article is from 2016 but covers much of what he spoke about today.

Kids turn violent as parents battle ‘digital heroin’ addiction

“Recent brain-imaging research confirms that glowing screens affect the brain’s frontal cortex — which controls executive functioning, including impulse control — in exactly the same way that drugs like cocaine and heroin do. Thanks to research from the US military, we also know that screens and video games can literally affect the brain like digital morphine.”

Topic: Values for a New World

Description:  The worldwide pandemic has laid bare the existential challenges of our time, including systemic racism, economic inequality and environmental collapse. There are calls to rethink our political systems and social relations. What might this new world look like? Join us to consider the fate of the human experiment with one of the eminent thinkers of our time.

Noam Chomsky is a distinguished linguist, philosopher, cognitive scientist, historian, and political activist. Institute Professor Emeritus at MIT, he is author of numerous groundbreaking works on topics ranging from linguistics to war, politics, and mass media. Now in his ninth decade, he remains a trenchant and timely social critic.

Hi Jim,

As a long time proponent of community fiber and a champion of the Connected Coast, I am appalled by the maneuver TELUS is pulling in aims of sabotaging fast, secure and affordable connectivity on Quadra and Cortes.

As you well know, any wireless Internet is going to be slower than what fiber optic cables connected to the premises can provide. Wireless Internet consumes more energy, will be plagued with security issues and will not offer the speed or symmetrical upload and download speeds that fiber will.

Cell towers transmit cellular signals. Cell service is not a replacement for broadband Internet, and with a minimum of 80% of wireless traffic being generated indoors, your community does not need cell towers placed by your homes for the 20% or less of the time your usage is mobile.

Here is something I have written for one of my websites:

Built-in obsolesce, competition for subscribers, and data mining for profit and control are just a few of the reasons commercially-owned wireless networks don’t support the public good. The alternative? Recent breakthroughs in fiber optic technology (https://thecalm.ca/wp-content/uploads/2020/01/A-Fiber-Optic-Breakthrough-Could-Beat-5G.pdf) make it the best, and fastest option for bringing high speed internet to Canada’s remote communities. Want to truly rethink the Internet? Think about locally owned and wired fiber-optic based broadband networks instead of wireless 5G.  (https://www.cbc.ca/news/opinion/rural-internet-access-1.3969175)

I have created this site. Connected Communities ~ Wired fiber for Sustainable Last-Mile Solutions   (https://connected-communities.ca/) Please use it, or anything in this message, if it helps you to promote the benefits of the Connected Coast over Telus’ cell towers to your community and to CIRA.

Wishing you All the Best,
