2020-02-16 Effect of smartphone on brain

1) From “Awakening from Alzheimer’s”.

Is Your Smartphone Compromising Your Brain?

“We are living in a smartphone world. Take a look around. Almost everywhere you go, folks are staring at their phones like zombies.

These little devices are obviously addictive. And too many people can’t seem to put them down or stop peering at their screens.

The problem with this obsession goes beyond the social and relational implications. Researchers are finding that all of that phone use is warping the structure of the neuronal networks in our brains. And not in a good way….

And the changes that using a smartphone makes to the brain’s white matter, say Asian researchers, may have a “sustained negative impact on thinking, remembering, attention and emotion regulation.”1

Another study in Asia shows that hours spent on your phone can change the balance of neurotransmitters in your brain in ways that can make you more anxious and fatigued.”

2)  An interesting document found on the FCC website. It’s difficult for the authorities to deny science that is readily available as a resource. A long document that I have barely skimmed, good fact vs. fiction pg. 15-18.  Really important descriptions of how studies can be manipulated to show that there are no effects. This sort of info is vital when debating the topic. A very good link at the end to a group that is new to me but which appears to have good info.

3) From the European Parliament, re. 5G.   Acknowledging that the exposure guidelines are 20 years old, it is time to review the scientific evidence to protect the public’s health. Health Canada’s Safety Code 6 is more than 20 years old and our government refuses to even consider the possibility that it is dangerously inadequate.

Effects of 5G wireless communication on human health

“The EU’s current provisions on exposure to wireless signals, the Council Recommendation on the limitation of exposure of the general public to electromagnetic fields (0 Hz to 300 GHz), is now 20 years old, and thus does not take the specific technical characteristics of 5G into account.

…the military, hospitals, the police and banks continue to use wired connections, at least for their most essential communications, mainly for security reasons. Wired networks generally offer a faster internet speed and are considered to be more secure. This is due to the fact that a wired network is only accessible through a physical cable connection, whereas with wireless networks, the signal may be broadcast outside the physical premises. Wired connection offers more control than radio or wifi, because such organisations already provide protection for servers and internal IT facilities within their physical locations, taking advantage of almost 100 % of the bandwidth, which also reduces response times. That also contributes to increased security.”
