3) Oram Miller, a building biologist, has done a lot of research on 5G and has answered many questions about how this technology differs from 3G and 4G, and how it will operate both in the microwave frequencies and, eventually, using the millimeter waves. He has explained why the current 4G transmitters, when brought to the utility pole outside homes, are, in many ways, more dangerous than 5G. One major piece of information is that 5G transmission will be “on demand”, although there will be a virtual constant stream of very low powered signals searching for a 5G device that wants to connect. 4G, on the other hand, will be emitting constant strong signals at frequencies that penetrate more easily. I highly recommend reading this document and the fact sheet.

5G Fifth Generation Cellular Technology

“5G has two parts: The first is expanded and updated use of existing frequencies used now for 3G and 4G LTE, which are in the 600 to 6,000 MHz (Megahertz) range (6,000 MHz is the same as 6.0 GHz, or Gigahertz). This is also called the low- to mid-band.

Cell companies will build upon their existing 4G LTE network of macro cell towers by trying to place additional lower power “small cell” antennas on street lights, buildings, power lines, lamp posts, house attics, rooftops, wherever they can get them closer to customers. These small cell antennas will contain both 4G and new, enhanced 5G equipment transmitting at these low- and mid-band frequencies.

New technologies will be employed to speed data traffic through these low- and mid-band frequencies. These will include: carrier aggregation, beamforming (down to 2 GHz), massive MIMO (Multiple Input, Multiple Output), and 256 QAM, a modulating technique that crams more throughput into the same airspace on the same frequencies. All of this involves a great deal of AI, or Artificial Intelligence, to help the network function more and more autonomously….

What many people do not know is that 5G antennas in the high band only transmit beamformed signals when mobile devices initiate a connection. That means, if we consider mobile wireless service in a residential area, 5G signals will not sweep through neighborhoods like 4G LTE signals do. Engineers and 5G activists know this. It is the 4G transmitters that will also be present on neighborhood small cell antenna arrays that worry activists as much as 5G equipment, because those 4G antennas will be always-on, constantly spraying homes with hard-to-shield radio frequencies at very close range. Yet, this is also part of “5G.””

5G Technology and Protections Fact Sheet

“5G will continue to include 3G and 4G LTE technology transmitting in the sub-6 GHz (600 MHz to 6 GHz) range for decades to come. Over time, new 5G antennas broadcasting in the super-20 GHz millimeter wave, or mmw, band (20 to 100 GHz) would be deployed. These super-20 GHz 5G antennas are proposed to be mounted at existing 4G macro cell tower sites as well as in many small cell antenna arrays closer to homes and in public places….

Specifically, 5G proposes to bring 3G, 4G LTE, WiFi and new 5G antennas closer to people through millions of small cell antenna arrays. 5G would first be deployed in pockets of dense population in urban centers located in public places, on and within buildings, and at existing 4G cell sites. Public WiFi antennas would also be mounted on overhead utility poles on cable company lines….

New 5G antennas will only transmit a beamformed signal when a user’s handset initiates a connection, on-demand. Beamformed signals would not scan the neighborhood and constantly transmit like existing 3G and 4G LTE non-beamforming antennas do now. However, always-on 4G LTE antennas would be installed along with 5G antennas at Wireless Telecommunications Facilities (WTFs) or base stations, which are additional names for small cell antennas, right in front of people’s homes. Activists believe the vast expansion of always-on 4G LTE and WiFi antennas close to homes in residential neighborhoods will be as much of a health risk as ondemand 5G beamformed signals.”

Please help support The Environmental Health Trust and a coalition of other commentators file a court appeal challenging the FCC’s order terminating its evaluation of the adequacy of FCC RF radiation limits.

Despite reams of scientific evidence showing serious biological effects at levels far below the existing FCC RF limits and evidence given by numerous individuals injured by RF, the FCC says RF limits established in the 1990’s are adequate to protect the public from today’s technologies and the new technologies being developed for widespread deployment across the nation.

The deadline for a legal challenge is February 3, 2020.

We have to raise $100,000 by February 3 to fund the first step in the lawsuit. A generous anonymous donor has pledged $50,000, providing that The Environmental Health Trust can secure matching donations. Please donate as generously as you are able.

More Information on the FCC Item

In December 2019, the FCC released an item stating they decline to update the US radio frequency (RF) human exposure limits despite scientific public health organizations’ arguments that the existing limits are 23 years old and outdated, not protective of children, and should be tightened in light of recent US government research findings that associated radio frequency with cancer and DNA damage.
